Helianthus annuus - Common Sunflower - Asteraceae (Aster Family)
The Common Sunflower is a widely branching, stout annual, 1 1/2-8 ft. tall, with coarsely hairy leaves and stems.
The terminal flowers heads are large and showy, up to 5 in. across. A tall, coarse leafy plant with a hairy stem commonly branched in the upper half and bearing several or many flower heads, the central maroon disk surrounded by many bright yellow rays.
Yellow ray flowers surround brown disk flowers.
Mine grow taller than 8 feet.
They are easy to grow and the pollinators love them !
Germination : Sunflower seeds are planted one-half inch deep.
Because sunflowers are an oil-rich seed, they require slightly more water for germination than many other seeds.
Temperature: Sunflowers germinate best at a soil temperature of 70- 85 Degrees.
Light Requirements: Sunflower seeds do not require light for germination.
However, when grown indoors in pots, the plastic wrap is removed at the first sign of germination.

How are Seeds Shipped ?
All very small seeds are processed using a normal stamp process for letters. Larger small seed orders will be shipped with a non-Machinable stamp. MULTI seed orders are shipped in a larger First-Class envelope with a printed USPS Etsy tracking label.
